Sweeney Todd advertising is schizophrenic

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
In December they played about three bars of music from the movie, and that from the middle of Epiphany which is more spoken than sung.

Now that they're advertising the DVD it's allllllllllllllllllll singing. And not put together particularly well.

But you know what said-DVD advertisements mean?

SWEENEY TODD IS ON DVD ON TUESDAY. Unfortunately, Borders isn't open before I go to work, so I'll just have to pop over and pick it up after work (yay corporate discount).

OR...Billy will probably be working the evening-early morning shift, reorganizing the DVD section. Think maybe they'd let him buy a copy at 3 am Tuesday morning?

WHY DIDN'T I KNOW THIS EXISTED?!

Queen doing "Big Spender"

I love Freddie Mercury. SO MUCH.

Sorry I've been AWOL for awhile. Work is sapping my will to live. And while I come up with lots of stuff to blog about during the day, we have a strict "no blogging" policy at work. I can do everything else on the intarwebz (well, except stream music, but that's just 'cause it crashes the computers) except blog.

Except I just noticed that by having a paid account I can post by e-mail. So perhaps I'll start doing that next week.

A wrench has been thrown in my BRILLIANT wedding plans because some asshole at the county clerk's office seems to think that people who are ordained through the ULC aren't able to perform marriages in Michigan (or at least Ottawa county. "We certainly don't allow those in Ottawa county" are the exact words the dude on the phone said to me, in the most condescending tone I've heard in awhile). And I had a BRILLIANT idea to have my dad marry us. It'd be beautiful and sweet and people would be crying and I'd giggle at them, lol. Because that's the most important part of the wedding for me: I have to be entertained as well during this shindig. Hence our amazing processional music.

But in non-bogus wedding news, I'm finally going to be able to talk to our coordinator at the hotel tomorrow. Apparently her e-mail server hates me and hasn't been sending her messages to me. So I sent her an e-mail today that kinda hinted we were getting worried about the lack of communication (totally true) and might end up going elsewhere (totally untrue. We really like this place). So she called me this evening while I was at Billy's Borders and we're going to talk on the phone early tomorrow afternoon.

Speaking of Billy's Borders, OMGIT'S AMAZING. If you've seen anything in the news about the Concept Stores Borders is rolling out, Billy works at the first one. And I love it. The digital mix and burn center is where I got the CD I'm listening to now. I think I've pretty much completed my Queen collection at this point, at least of the songs I already know and love. But I need to ask Billy why I couldn't download the potentially amazing version of "The Show Must Go On" with Elton John. I couldn't ask him while I was at the store because HOLY CRAP was it packed tonight. They were holding an open house for all of us corporate people, and I think everyone in the office showed up (except for the women I hang out with, of course).

I think I'm out of useful thoughts to post. So I will leave with these: SAD FACE!!!!!!! OMG SQUEE and KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay, Oscars!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I know it's looking doubtful that there will even be an Oscar ceremony this year, but I can't help but get excited when the nominees are announced. I am a huge film nerd.

Which is weird, because I never even end up seeing a majority of the nominees.

I'm really weird about movies. I haven't seen a lot in comparison with other people. But the ones I have seen I am obsessive about. And so I get excited about the Oscars, despite not having seen (for example) a single one of the best picture nominees this year.

But anyways. Johnny Depp was nominated for Sweeney Todd (up against George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis who everyone is ga-ga over, Tommy Lee Jones and Viggo Mortensen). Sweeney Todd was also nominated for costumes and art direction. And Pirates was nominated! For Make up (against La Vie En Rose and fucking Norbit) and art direction (against Golden Compass and Transformers. Wow! A category where I've seen every nominated movie! Pirates had better win...)

I am very amused that Enchanted has three of the five nominations for best song. I hope "That's How You Know" wins. 'Cause damn that was a fun number.

In real life news, I had my first wedding related nightmare :-O I kept losing my shoes. And they were hideous shoes. I don't know why I was wearing them for my wedding (they were navy blue! With a weird squat heel! WTF?!) I'd find them, and then we'd go somewhere else, and I'd lose them again.

Strangely enough, this is the second dream I've had recently about losing shoes. This just happens to be the only one that was specifically about my wedding shoes.

Oh, and at the ceremony, I was apparently in charge of running my own music? That doesn't make any sense.

Movies

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I don't know how I feel about this: TEETH trailer (really? That was the best title they came up with? THEM is scarier)

This, however, is the best thing EVAR: Mannequin: On the Run. Mannequin was my dad's and my movie when I was a kid (so much so that I'm pretty sure we're going to dance to Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now for the father/daughter dance). I can't believe I never knew this existed.

Heigl Disappointed with Dr. Stevens' Affair

Okay, I know nothing about Grey's Anatomy. Way too soap opera-ish to get my attention. But how often does an actor come out and say they don't approve of their character's story arc while the show is still on the air?

And then to speak out against Knocked Up! I think she's the first person I've seen have a negative reaction to that movie outside of explicitly feminist circles. I happened to enjoy the movie, like her, 98% of the time - enough for me to overall say that I really liked it. But there were some sexist moments in it, and she recognizes them, and is criticizing them and that is awesome.

Sweeney Todd slated for holiday release

Damn right it has broad enough appeal to have a normal, holiday release!

Seriously, you have no idea how much it would piss me off if they tried to make me wait an extra month or two to see this. I got antsy waiting for Brokeback Mountain to make its way to Ann Arbor; I think I would die if I couldn't see Johnny Depp on opening day :-(

Hasn't the success of Johnny Depp/Tim Burton (...there's fic like that, isn't there? Oh god...) proven that people will come out to see it, no matter how weird it is? And is this really any weirder than Edward Scissorhands? Have some faith in the public, studio heads!

I hope it comes out on Christmas so it'll be the film my family and I goes to see that day. 'Cause if it comes out before then I'm going to have to go opening night. Because it's singing Johnny Depp. Johnny Depp singing Sondheim. Squee!

Started a new comm here on IJ - [info]hp_slashfantasy I was part of the LJ-version and loooooooooooved it. I just wish it had stayed active :-( Hopefully the IJ version will work better. It's a simple premise: post your fantasy of an HP (femme)slash story/artwork you'd like to see and hopefully someone will fulfill your request. The HP slash fans on my flist totally should go join :-) Later on I'll probably get things started with a request or two, but right now my mind is stubbornly filled with het-smut ideas. Bah.

In real life, forensics is kicking into gear this weekend! We have an awesome freshmen class - I'm already really excited about at least one speech. Coaching is going to be awesome.

Also found out today that maybe I don't have to be enrolled full time to stay on my parents' insurance - maybe I only have to be enrolled full time for one semester/year. That would be sweet, so that I don't have to fill my schedule with four bullshit classes and one important one. I'll probably take two or three classes anyway, just to keep myself occupied, but I'm not going to take anything too stressful.

Of course, I still need to check with my parents and have them find that out.

Allegedly my loan is going to be disbursed on August 31st. I hope everything goes in a timely fashion, considering the day after that rent is due :-/ I have enough to cover it and utilities and everything - I'm not desperate for cash. But it'd be nice to have that cushion. 'Cause it seems whenever I'm low on cash some catastrophe happens (usually relating to my car) and I have to beg my parents for money so that I can survive without mooching off of Billy too much.

The Secret of NIMH is on On Demand this month. This excited me way too much. Don Bluth had soooooooooo much respect for 80's kids - his movies have some scary shit. Dragon the cat? Terrifying. He's totally the furry version of Sharp Tooth (right down to the scene where he's knocked out, lying upside down, and his semi-lifeless eye is open and reflecting the protagonist...). Scary stuff. And I love it. I kinda want to re-read the book now...maybe I'll go see if Borders has it.

WHY THE HELL AM I STILL AWAKE AT 4:30 IN THE MORNING?!
