Today's awkward situation

Another friend is getting married, which means another bachelorette party to attend.

I was the only person there who wasn't either already married or planning a wedding. Seriously, people, how long can you talk about the cost of veils or the trials of sending final numbers to caterers?!

I have to get through this wedding, and then another one in May. I swear to god, no one else is my life is allowed to get married. EVER.
  • -pats- You poor thing...?
  • God! I was just saying many of the same things only a couple of days ago. It seems like I am one of the only people not married and/or have had children yet. I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with the world if everyone's already started families and we've barely hit our twenties.
    • To be fair, the latest party was for a woman who is closer to thirty than twenty, and has been with her husband-to-be for a number of years, so it's not nearly as big of a deal as the marriage of 22 year olds I was in over the summer.

The way my boyfriend and I are looking at it, is we need time to be adults and really get a feel for how the world works as grown ups before we get married. It's (hopefully) inevitable that we will marry, so why hurry?
      • *nods* Gotcha. But the sentiment is still there, because I am one of the few folks not headed straight toward that one direction. I mean, seriously. Even single person I run into has rushed headlong into marriage (and was divorced by 19!) or having children.

And yeah, that was my thought, too. I just couldn't/can't understand why people feel the need to rush into anything. We have the time and the opportunity to wait to start our families and pursue more of the things we'd like to accomplish first. Creating more mouths to feed is a wonderful experience from what I've gathered, but I've never seen it as something that should be at the forefront of young people's minds.

        But hey, that's me.
